Our aims

Backing emerging contemporary artists to make their mark in the international art field, the Budapest Artisan Foundation (BAA) was established in 2005 to honour outstanding Hungarian contemporary artists. The BAA is committed to contemporary art that is locally engaged, regionally responsive, and internationally ambitious. Located in Budapest, the Foundation facilitates exchange between Hungarian and international artistic networks that include museums, foundations, curators, galleries and individuals. With the aim to help young artists develop their art through improved learning and networking opportunities, the Foundation aims to establish several scholarship and residency programs.

The Foundation also aims to set up its own collection by selecting and acquiring art pieces created by those artists who benefited from the Foundation’s scholarship or residency program.

  • To boost international opportunities for Hungarian artists and amplify their impact

  • To give the opportunity for emerging artists to position their practice within relevant international discourse

  • To offer relevant networking opportunities

  • To offer an opportunity to monetize their artistic practices

  • To forge international collaborations and build platforms to incubate and present their works

  • To be a catalyst for new ways of engaging with contemporary art, new ways of supporting and developing creative practices and new ways of thinking

  • To play a significant role in the arts and culture sector in Hungary

  •  To make Budapest a culturally richer and more creative city
